Leicester Square [Leicester Square] BrE NAmE
a square in central London which is popular with tourists, and best known for its large cinemas. It became a public garden in 1874 and motor vehicles are not allowed in it. In its centre is a statue of William Shakespeare, and to the north is a statue of Charlie Chaplin.
